The Story Behind Spring Pond Farm

Ray Cilley’s love of farming began at a very early age. His happiest moments in childhood were the days he spent working on his grandmother’s farm in Francestown, NH. The dream of having his own farm slowly became reality, land was purchased and cleared in Greenfield, slowly opening up beautiful views, and transforming the land into grazing grounds for the various animals that call Spring Pond Farm home.

The spacious barn was built with the help of a Woodmizer sawmill which Ray purchased and used to mill the boards covering the sturdy post and beam frame from wood harvested on the property.

Today the farm consists of two separate properties in Greenfield. The main farm boasts more than 150 acres of fields, forest, an orchard and a pond.  The farm is home to seven Alpaca, a herd of 12 Scottish Highland cattle, a flock of chickens, 2 cats and Ollie the farm dog.

The second parcel was a family dairy farm in Greenfield worked by the same family for many generations.  Ray assisted the former owner in obtaining conservation easements, and later acquired the property. The chimney stack from the original 18th century cape still stands as a monument to the building’s rich history, and is surrounded by vegetable gardens.   After a few years of hard work, Ray reclaimed a 15 acre hayfield, and cleared trails all around the property where visitors and their four-legged friends now enjoy walking and riding.
